Dayton electric rate increase still below AES Ohio standard rate
According to a recent report by WDTN, the city of Dayton has renewed its partnership with AEP Energy, which will provide residents with electricity at a lower rate than the standard offer by AES Ohio.
As reported, the partnership is expected to save residents over $100 this year, starting June 1, compared to staying with AES’s standard offer. The new rate agreement will be lower than the rate offered by AES Ohio, but it will still increase costs due to the rising global energy prices. Specifically, the city has locked in a rate of 9.65 cents per kWh until May of 2025, compared to 7.4 cents per kWh for 2022, while the AES Ohio standard price is 10.8 cents per kWh.
Residents of Dayton will receive letters with an opportunity to opt out of the aggregation program, and the city recommends continuing with the program by disregarding the letter. Those who wish to opt-out can do so without incurring fees and can shop around for their desired rates.
